No matter how carefully you handle and store your photos, time and age will eventually cause them to fade and deteriorate. By scanning them into a digital format, you will preserve and protect one of your most irreplaceable possessions.

Family History If you have children and you want to preserve your family history, how do you intend to divide your

photographs between them?

Scanning your photos prevents this dilemma, give all of them a copy!

Lasting memories  Over time, your old photographs will begin to fade. Old photographs from the 60's and 70's by now have lost a lot of their color. Before they get damaged any further, let Pixave scan your photos and create beautiful digital images, our color restoration, included in our standard prices, will restore your faded, bleached photos to their former glories.

Gifts  Perhaps you have someone in the family coming up for a special birthday, why not treat them to a photo book containing scanned images from the day they were born. Embarrass them with baby photos and bring back memories of parents, grandparents and other family members. Once a photo has been scanned it can be for a number of gifts, e.g. Mugs, key rings, calendars etc.

Sharing on social media. Facebook & Twitter are very popular with a large number of people sharing images with friends, why not just share modern day images or photos that are given a retro feel in Instagram and show them the real retro images!

Important Packing Instructions

You may ship us your boxes, or sleeves - If your photos are loose, we recommend grouping them in batches  and labeling them so we can arrange to put those groups in folders, each folder is addition of 0.50p so best to group them in large numbers to a folder rather than many small folders, once you have added you label around the photos and securing with rubber band, place them in wrapping to prevent damage during shipping. When you pack your box, add extra padding for protection.

DPI  Dots per inch is the term used to measure the density of an image, namely the number of dots that can be placed in a line within 1 inch (2.54cm). The higher the DPI used to scan an image, the larger the resulting file will be. Most photographs are printed at 300 DPI, and so scanning at a higher resolution won't improve the quality of the image, however, if you intend to print enlargements using a photo printing website it will be better to scan your photo's at a higher resolution and send them the high-resolution file. Some web sites will enlarge the print using low-quality software, so the more you can do to minimize the changes your printers need to do the better.

JPEG files are the most commonly used method of storing photographs on computers and digital cameras. Photo's scanned to JPEG files do produce excellent results whilst taking up a minimum of space, and achieves this by compressing your images, which results in a loss of quality. However, the JPEG standard allows for different levels of compression, with higher quality scans resulting the less you compress the image. By default, Pixave scans your photographs in JPEG format with the least level of compression, resulting in high-quality images that are reasonably large in size. The quality will outstanding and will look fantastic for everyday use such as reprinting your family photographs etc. There are some applications that require a higher quality, e.g. images to be printed in magazines, where professionals require the highest quality possible, in which case, we are happy to scan your photographs in TIFF format which are lossless (i.e. have no compression) but take up HUGE amounts of disk space.
